K-9 Brownie is crucial in assisting the Arson unit in
Compton, specifically in determining the causes of
suspicious fires and combating intentional arson
incidents. Arson accounted for 53% of structure fires
in the dog’s service area over the past three years.

Arson K-9 Brownie joined the Compton Fire Department in October 2020 thanks to a scholarship from State Farm. After completing a rigorous 200-hour training course, K-9 Brownie and handler Arson Investigator and Firefighter Engineer Jurado became certified.
He eagerly anticipates the continuous benefits that this program can bring to the community.

We are thrilled to introduce this exceptional program to our community. However, the program’s long-term sustainability relies on continuous grant funding and generous donations. While the acquisition of the arson dog has been covered, there are ongoing expenses for dog food, routine veterinary care, training aids, training props, and the purchase and outfitting of a safe vehicle for our four-legged firefighter.
